2017 NOMINEE
CATHERINE MINAMI
Catherine Minami volunteered over 10,000 hours working with other organizations in the Las Vegas community during her spare times. She founded the Ninth Island Aunties in 2004 and has since grown to become a bigger organization in Nevada. The Ninth Island Aunties is a group of volunteers who helped many other organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House, The Las Vegas Rescue Mission, The Susan G. Komen of Southern Nevada, The Giving Projects and many more in the Las Vegas Community.
Catherine is a true Hawaii girl and believes that kindness and empathy can go a long way. In doing so, she embodied the meaning of Aloha in serving others in the community. Catherine first started by making baskets to donate to shelters and rescue missions. Shortly after, a few of her wahine (women) friends became interested in helping and the rest was history. Cathy also received the Act of Kindness Award from Channel 8 News
